Time is a funny thing.
Humans slice time in so many ways; seconds, minutes, hours, days, months, years and decades. We trees can only measure our stay on this earth by the seasonal changes of Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. And the seasons pass so quickly, you wonder where they go.
It doesn't seem that long ago that I first noticed my surroundings. I remember my first nesting pair and the first time my leaves dropped as the cold weather approached. I never liked the cold, it always made me tired, so tired that I would go to sleep and wouldnt wake up until spring. And during those last days of Autumn, I always worried that I might fall into a final, permanent sleep.
And now I think it's happening. A few seasons have come and gone and I have been lying here since that storm. I'm more worried, more tired, and more ready to sleep than ever.
How long am I going to last? The funny thing is, only time will tell. |
